Sean Paul at Fresh Island Festival 2017

With a Chinese, Jamaican and Portuguese lineage, the dancehall DJ- Sean Paul was born in 1973 in Kingston Jamaica. In the past few decades, he has been established as one of the most popular reggae artists in the world and the most successful Jamaican artist on the U.S calendar, having released 5 top 10 hits and three number one singles. For this reason, he has also been seen to steadily attract international attention, with the recent one being the 2017 Fresh Island Festival being held in July at Zrce beach in Croatia. He has so far been added to the line-up of Europe’s biggest grime, hip-hop, and rap urban beach concert.

On his way to the top, the dancehall DJ has been nominated for at least 7 Grammy awards, having been a winner at MTV music award winner, ASCAP Rhythm, Bet Award, Soul music awards, Soul Train Awards, MOBO Awards, and the American music award winner. His debut single ‘Baby Girl’ was very successful, and this led to further hits that caused him to be commissioned to collaborate with Mr Vegas for rapper DMX ‘Here Comes the Boom’. The Imperial Blaze album is one of the most talked about, having been very popular in Jamaica and the international front. In Japan, it became the number 1 hit and certified gold in France. In other countries like Canada and the UAE, it was among the top 10 albums of 2009.

Sean Paul’s well-structured rhythms, distinct voice, and top-class productions have all been the perfect blend for his success. Although he has been successful throughout the years, he has been careful to remain humble and make his fans proud.

French Montana at Fresh Island Festival

Karim Kharbouch, known in the music scene as French Montana, is a Moroccan-born American Hip-Hop artist. From his humble start in America at the age of 13, he went on to create the Coke Boys Records music studio. His first music company was called Cocaine City Records until signing a joint-venture deal with Maybach Music Group and Bad Boy Records. French Montana is best known for his collaboration with the rapped Max B and producer Harry Fraud. In his more recent exploits, he has been in collaboration with Diddy and Rick Ross.

French Montana debuted with his mixtape in 2007 and followed it with his studio album entitled Excuse My French in 2013. He had a brush with death in 2003 when he miraculously survived a bullet to the head. His real breakthrough into the music world came with the release of his song entitled “Choppa Choppa Down”, which could be heard in many clubs back in 2010. In 2012, he released his single called “Shot Caller” which holds the record for the most played tracks on the biggest urban contemporary radio station in the country. He has been nominated for his song writing skills at the 2016 Grammy Awards for his song “All Day” and nominated for the Top R&B Song in 2015 at the Billboard Music Awards.

Rae Sremmurd

American hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd have been announced to play at Fresh Island Festival Zrce Beach 2017. The brothers from Atlanta, Georgia have been writing and performing together as Rae Sremmurd since 2015 and have already amassed a huge fan base across the world.

The duo, consisting of Khalif “Swae Lee” Brown and Aaquil “Slim Jxmmi” Brown, will be performing at Fresh Island as part of the Stremmlife 2 tour following the release of the chart topping album in September of last year. The tour, which is currently ongoing has seen the brothers sell out venues across the world and perform to countless fans in their inimitable style.

Named for their record label Ear Drummers – the band name consists of each word spelled backwards, Rae Stremmurd are already making themselves known in the hip hop world and are looking set to become the next big thing. Songs to checkout if you’re new to the band include hits ‘No Flex Zone’ and ‘Throw Some Mo’ from debut album Stremmlife, and the worldwide number one hit ‘Black Beatles’ from the follow up album Stremmlife 2.

Edgy sounds played over clever lyrics make this hip hop at its most raw. This is the music of the people and Rae Sremmurd are certainly not shy in bringing it to them. The duo reached notoriety after No Flex Zone was remixed by Nicki Minaj, but in reality it was only a matter of time before these talented brothers exploded onto the music scene.
